Easy White Loaf Recipe

500g Strong White Flour 7g Fast Action Yeast Pinch of Salt Desert Spoon of Sugar Glug of Olive Oil 350ml Luke Warm Water (You may not need to use all of it)

1. Put the flour, yeast, salt and sugar into a large bowl, and gradually incorporate the oil first, and the water, bit-by-bit until the ingredients have formed a soft dough. 2. Knead the dough by hand, stretching it across a flour dusted work surface, for a good 15-20 minutes if by hand, or 10 minutes if in a stand mixer. 3. Once kneaded, place your ball of dough in a large oiled bowl and cover with a tea towel for at least 60 minutes (or really, until the dough has doubled in size). 4. Once the dough has risen, oil a loaf tin and leave on the kitchen side. Retrieve the raised dough, and punch the air out of it. Then, by repeatedly stretching the top of the ball, and folding underneath, make a chunky, sausage-like shape and place in the oiled tin to prove for at least 60 minutes. 5. When the dough no longer springs back all the way (watch the video to see what I mean!), your loaf is ready to bake! Place in a pre-warmed over at 180C for 25 minutes. 6. When the time has passed, remove the tin, tip out the loaf onto a wire rack and tap the bottom. You’ll want it to sound hollow. If it doesn’t, pop it back in the oven for another 5 minutes and retest! 7. Try to wait a couple of hours for the loaf to cool (as hard as that is!) so you can cut it easily with a serrated bread knife. 8. Enjoy!
